I avoided landscapes for a long time. I thought it a
useless exercise to try and copy what God did better. Now my landscape
painting is based on memories of places, an impression, capturing the
essence of a place rather than slavishly copying. So that people will
say "That reminds me of Scotland, or Tuscany or The Yorkshire Wolds"
They always hit the right spot, but they would never find the actual
place, It is all encompassing impression, the essence, as I see it ,of
each individual area. |
